Your ultimate guide to the best Instagram Locations in Athens, Greece. Athens is a bustling city that to the naked eye may seem chaotic. It is, but it an organised chaos, that once you get used to, will be able to go with the flow with ease.

This guide has all the top Instagrammable locations in Athens, Greece that I have visited. I have included specific addresses and coordinates of the locations, which I hope you find helpful when looking for them.

Below I share a map pinning each of the locations. I hope this helps you when you are planning your itinerary.

1. Areopagus Hill

This hill is located at the foot of the famous Acropolis and has some of the best views of it, in my opinion. From this angle, you are not able to directly see the Parthenon, but have a view towards the “Beulé Gate” which is the entrance from which you enter into the Acropolis to see the Parthenon. And if you look to your left in the far distance you are able to see the top of the “Eretteo”, which honours Athena and Poseidon. What is unique about this Greek temple is that it features a porch with 6 caryatids. In actual fact, the originals of these have been removed and you are able to view them inside the Acropolis Museum. However, you will not be able to see all 6, only 5 of the caryatids are located there, while the 6th is found in the British Museum in London.

The address and coordinates – Theorias 21, Athina 105 55, Greece (37°58’20.5″N 23°43’23.7″E).

2. Odeon of Herodes Atticus

The Odeon of Herodes Atticus amphitheatre was constructed in 161 CE. Today it holds concerts and other performances. So if you are in Athens keep an eye for anything that might spark your interest. Who knows, your favourite musician might be holding a concert here.

The address is – Dionysiou Areopagitou, Athina 117 42, Greece.

The coordinates for the photo on the left are 37°58’12.5″N 23°43’23.4″E.

The coordinates for the photo on the right are 37°58’14.0″N 23°43’26.0″E.

3. A for Athens Bar

A for Athens bar is a chill space, perfect for a cocktail with friends while enjoying some epic views over Monastiraki Square, Plaka and the Parthenon.

The address and coordinates are – Miaouli 2, Athina 105 54, Greece (37°58’36.9″N 23°43’32.8″E).

4. Roman Agora of Athens

The Roman Agora is located on the north side of the Acropolis in the neighbourhood of Plaka. It was built during the Roman period in Athens and used to be one of the main meeting points in the city as well as housing the central market. I suggest taking a walk around the Agora to find cute photo opportunities. On one of my walks around I found this cool outlook:

The address and coordinates are – Pikilis 3-1, Athina 105 55, Greece (37°58’28.5″N 23°43’29.7″E).

You may also enter the Ancient Agora if you wish. It costs around €8 to visit, or you can purchase a ticket for €30 euros (valid for five consecutive days), which includes access to the Ancient Agora, the Acropolis and the Archaeological Museum of Kerameikos.

5. Streets of Plaka and Monestiraki

Just a short walk away from the Roman Agora, I took the photos below. The first two photos below are taken on Taxiarchon Street and the corner of Dexippou Street.

The closest address and coordinates (Ταξιαρχών, Athina 105 55, Greece – 37°58’29.7″N 23°43’33.4″E) (37°58’29.9″N 23°43’33.4″E).

One of my more popular photos from Athens from a few years ago is the photo on the left below. It was taken on Thrasivoulou 18, Athina 105 55, Greece (37°58’24.6″N 23°43’33.8″E).

The photo on the right was taken on the corner of Kirristou Street and Erechtheos Street – the coordinates for this location are 37°58’25.6″N 23°43’43.9″E.

This is another snap taken in the beautiful streets of Plaka on Lisiou 12-22, Athina 105 56, Greece with coordinates (37°58’24.3″N 23°43’42.3″E).

My TOP TIP for these areas is to go for a stroll and just let the streets and alleyways lead you. There are so many photo ops at every corner turn – colourful streets and houses.

Unfortunately I was unable to pin these locations on the map at the top of this blog post.

6. Anafiotika

Now this is a sight to be seen. Nestled at the foot of the Acropolis, you will find the neighbourhood of Anafiotika. This suburb is extra special because once you walk into into streets you immediately feel teleported to a Greek island.

The addresses and coordinates for the below locations are as close as possible as I could get them as some of the streets within Anafiotika do not have names. On the map this is the street parallel above Stratonos street (37°58’20.4″N 23°43’42.6″E).

7. Thiseio

The below were taken in a restaurant, the name of which I cannot remember (sorry, rookie mistake) and the names I’m finding on google/google maps are not ringing a bell. I provide the nearest address and coordinates that remind me of the place and view – Apostolou Pavlou 25 (37°58’26.8″N 23°43’12.2″E).

TOP TIP I recommend walking down from the Acropolis along Apostolou Pavlou – you will find plenty of spots to take photos as the perspective of the Acropolis changes as you walk down.

8. Hadrian’s Arch

This location is in the street directly opposite Hadrian’s Arch. I recommend visiting early in the morning if you are looking for photos with no/fewer people in the frame.

The address and coordinates are – Lisikratous 10-20, Athina 105 58, Greece (37°58’13.9″N 23°43’52.2″E).

Below is a reel I created transitioning from one instagrammable location in Athens to Hadrian’s Arch.

9. Metropolitan Church of Athens Evangelismos Theotokou

This church is just a short walk from Monastiraki Square. I was there at around 12 noon and surprisingly there were very few people around that day. Otherwise, best time to visit as usual would be first thing in the morning.

The address and coordinates are – Mitropoleos, Athina 105 56, Greece (37°58’31.4″N 23°43’47.1″E).

10. Lycabettus Hill

It can be a bit of a trek to reach Lycabettus Hill, but it is well worth it. The views over Athens are just breathtaking. I share a short reel below showing the views.

The walk from the nearest station is about 25min walk. If you are running late, don’t have the time or don’t want to get sweaty before taking some snaps, I suggest getting public transport as close as possible and taking a taxi from there. TOP TIP – if you want a prime position to watch sunset and/or to take photos from, it is a good idea to get to get there at least 1hr before sunset to find your spot. It is a very popular location and I had made it just in time for sunset – it was packed, so I did not get the chance to take photos with myself in them.

The address and coordinates are – Prosvasi 76, Agiou Isidorou 106, Athina 114 71, Greece (37°58’54.7″N 23°44’36.5″E).

11. Filopappou Hill

Filopappou Hill is a bit easier to get to than Lycabettus Hill. It is about a 15min walk from the Odeon of Herodes Atticus amphitheatre. This is a great location to visit for photos as there are plenty of spots for snaps with different perspectives and you not only get one Athenian landmark, but three – the Acropolis, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus amphitheatre and Lycabettus Hill.

TOP TIP – I went for sunset and it was beautiful, but I feel that it would make for a great sunrise location too.

The address and coordinates are – Epifanous 5, Athina 117 42, Greece (37°58’03.1″N 23°43’20.0″E).

Not far from Hadrian’s Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus – you can find this location between the Church Agia Fotini Ilissos (Address: Ardittou 3, Athina 105 57, Greece) and Basilica of Ilissos (Address: Ardittou 3, Athina 116 36, Greece).

The coordinates are 37°58’04.5″N 23°44’06.5″E.

12. Athenian Riviera

The Athenian Riviera is a must visit. It as such a chilled vibe about it and if you are looking to go for a quick dip during the summer to cool down, this is the perfect location.

TOP TIP – I think it would make a fantastic sunset photoshoot location.

The address and coordinates are: Waterfront of Flisvos – Παραλία Φλοίσβου, Palaio Faliro, Greece (37°55’32.1″N 23°41’27.0″E).
