What a time to be alive. It is the year 2020 and a virus named COVID-19 has taken over the world “literally”, the virus is also known as Coronavirus (no links to corona beer for anyone reading this in the years to follow and once this has all been forgotten), possibly could be known in months to come as “the Rona” by Australians (because, well, Aussie’s just love to create abbreviations for everything).
I will start by playing a little game with you – never did I ever think that anything like this would happen in my lifetime, let alone in the generations to come. But how wrong was I. As I am sure, many of you are “screaming” at the screen – YES, me too me too, I also did not ever expect this to happen now or ever. It’s good to know we’re on the same page.
With the way technology and medicine have developed over recent years, I cannot say I expected this, because I never did, but if something like “The Walking Dead” scenario were to ever happen, I guess I anticipated that because of our advancements in all areas in general that we would be able to stop any sort of virus like this quick smart. Unfortunately, we were not.
BUT, we cannot let this get us down! TOGETHER we can overcome this! Let’s stay positive and look to the good things during this time and there are a few – we get to tick off all those things that we keep re-writing on our to do list, the environment is re-generating (satellite photos over China show significant reduction in pollution) and the canals of Venice have fish swimming through them. At times like this – that you realise that life is made of the little things…am I right?
Things To do While Self Isolating – Social Distancing
Get Creative and/or Learn a New Skill:
- Painting (my all-time favourite).
- Learn a new skill – my choice? Graphic Design – I would loveee to learn even the slightest bit of Graphic Design. Also, improving my Lightroom and Photoshop skills is on my list.
- Learn a new language – currently working on my Italian. Although, I’ve been slack and need to pick up my game!
- Try a colouring app.
https://diycandy.com/best-adult-coloring-apps/ - Try a new recipe.
- LAST BUT NOT LEAST – Take photos at home – something I am going to start doing. Just settling down with the whole Work from Home thing.

Other FUN things you can do:
- Exercise – choose from countless free exercise tutorials on YouTube or use a workout app.
- Sing along to Disney Songs – because let’s be real, who doesn’t love to sing at home when no one is watching.
- Call a Friend/FaceTime – going to start on this ASAP, so many friends I have overseas that I haven’t spoken to over the phone in AGEEES!
- Do an Instagram Live – get to know me, let’s have some fun and get those conversations started.
- Do an Instagram Live with a Friend – ask each other get to know Questions or play games. Make it interactive for all watching.
- Watch a live performance or just a Live on Instagram from one of your favourite artists, so many of them have been doing this recently.
- Learn a new language – my goal is to learn Italian this year.
- Learn a dance – sooo many places to learn a new dance from – YouTube/TikTok.
- Play a video game – I have a super old X-Box, don’t know if it’s possible, but depending on how long this lasts, I might try to connect.
- Plan your next getaway for when we overcome everything that is going on.
- Make TikToks – I’m no expert, but I’m trying. Check out my TikTok videos here:

Relaxing Self-Care things to do:
Read a book – come on, you know there’s hundreds of books you’ve been meaning to read, but just haven’t had the time, well, now you do! 😉
Start a Diary – write down anything and everything, doodle, make a list of everything you are grateful for and a list for everything you took for granted before the current situation so you can remember it once we have overcome the lock downs, self-isolation and social distancing – you can remember to do these little things that made you happy that you never realised before.
Meditate – even if you just start off with 1 minute in the morning (or whenever you have some free time) – take some deep breathes and reflect – and work your time up from there.
Paint your nails – file, buff, push those cuticles back and put on that colour you’ve been meaning to put on for ages.
Face masks – there’s all types of masks you can try – clay, peeling, heating, calming – now is the time to try them all.
Take a bath – get those bubbles going.
Find a new series to watch. My top 10 binge worthy Netflix shows I recommend:
1. V Wars (quite relevant to our current situation as the storyline there is also about a pandemic, but with vampires)
2. YOU
3. Stranger Things
4. Elite
5. Baby
6. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
7. Ozark
8. Unbelievable
9. Dirty John
10. The Good Place
Find a series to re-watch (I’ve done my best to sort them into Genres):
Get on top of your household chores:
- Change up your interior and rearrange things.
- De-clutter – go through your wardrobe, rearrange, separate clothes into piles – to be donated, to be sold and another, for the ones with holes in them (let’s not lie, we all have a few of these) time to throw them out.
- Clean your shoes – follow Sam Neill’s approach. Check out his Instagram https://www.instagram.com/samneilltheprop/ for some fun/heart-warming updates.
- Clean your house – vacuum and mop the floors, clean your windows.
- Sort out your pantry – go through all the tins and jars and check the expiry date. Anything expired – sorry, but let’s be real, you shouldn’t be eating it. Once you’ve gone through your goods, organise your kitchen.
