Hiking on a glacier is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and every hike is unique. I had the privilege of exploring the stunning Sólheimajökull Glacier with @arcticadventures, and wow, I learned so much about these majestic ice giants. Sharing some cool glacier facts below that totally blew my mind:

* Glaciers change every day – they are constantly evolving.
* Summer vs. Winter – the glaciers look SO different in each season. In summer, they are more like crushed ice, while winter brings smooth, hard, super-blue ice. I went during winter, and it was like walking on a giant diamond – sparkling, crystal-clear, and breathtaking.
* Many of Iceland’s glaciers are perched atop active volcanoes
* Some glaciers in Iceland hold ice that is thousands of years old.
* Glaciers hold about 70% of the world’s fresh water, and in Iceland, they feed into rivers, lakes, and waterfalls that provide freshwater to the country.

One thing I was surprised by was how much easier glacier hiking was than I expected! I thought I would be sliding all over the place, but once you strap on your crampons, it is like being glued to the ice (in the best way possible!). Sure, there were a few moments on the way down when things got a bit tricky, but @arcticadventures guides are pros - they are knowledgeable, safety-conscious, give the best tips on how to move on the glacier and always there to lend a helping hand.
